Yellow Tavern, Battle of

The Battle of Yellow Tavern is fought on May 11, 1864, as part of the Overland Campaign of the American Civil War.

Union cavalry under Maj. Gen. Philip Sheridan is detached from the Army of the Potomac to conduct a raid on Richmond, Virginia, and challenge legendary Confederate cavalry commander Maj. Gen. J.E.B.

The Confederate force is outnumbered and outgunned; Stuart is mortally wounded while attempting to rally his men, and dies the next day.
