Valdejunquera, Battle of

Years: 920 - 920

The Battle of Valdejunquera is a victory for the Islamic Emirate of Córdoba over the Christian armies of the kingdoms of León and Navarre that takes place in a valley called Iuncaria (Junquera) in 920 as part of the Córdoban "Campaign of Muez" (Campaña de Muez), which is directed primarily against the southern line of defenses of the County of Castile along the Duero.

The earliest reference to the battle is found in the Chronicon of Sampiro, a Leonese cleric, written probably in the late 980s.

"Who controls the past controls the future: who controls the present controls the past...Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book has been rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street and building has been renamed, every date has been altered."

― George Orwell, 1984 (1948)
