The plague of 1576-1685 ravages all Spain, striking with special virulence in the areas of Andalusía and Valencia.

The poor harvest of 1682-83 brings with it famine conditions that weaken the exhausted population still further.

This last plague of the 17th century, together the famine that follows in its wake, is estimated to have claimed 250,000 lives.
