Serbian Uprising, First
Years: 1804 - 1806
The First Serbian Uprising, a Serbian national revolution, lasts for nine years and approximately nine months (1804-1813), during which Serbia perceives itself as an independent state for the first time after 400 years of Ottoman and short-lasting Austrian occupations.
Revolutionary Serbia responds to the Ottoman Slaughter of the knezes by establishing its separate government (Praviteljstvujusci Sovjet), Serbian Prince, Parliament (Zbor) and University of Belgrade.
Even though it is brutally crushed by the Ottomans in 1813, this revolution would spark the Second Serbian Uprising in 1815, which result in the creation of modern Serbia, as it gains semi-independence from the Ottoman Empire in 1817 (formally in 1829).
