Samoan Civil War, Second

Years: 1898 - 1899

The Second Samoan Civil War is a conflict that reaches a head in 1898 when Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States are locked in dispute over who should have control over the Samoan island chain, located in the South Pacific Ocean.

At the war's conclusion in 1899, the United States is granted the eastern section of the islands, the Germans are granted the western section of the islands, and the British are given other Pacific island chains formerly belonging to Germany.

The German half is now an independent nation: The Independent State of Samoa.

The American half has voluntarily remained under the control of the American government as the territory of American Samoa.
