Years: 1797 - 1797

The Battle of Rivoli (January 14–15, 1797) is a key victory in the French campaign in Italy against Austria.

Napoleon Bonaparte's twenty-three thousand Frenchmen defeat an attack of twenty-eight thousand Austrians under Feldzeugmeister Jozsef Alvinczi, ending Austria's fourth and final attempt to relieve the Siege of Mantua.

Rivoli further demonstrates Napoleon's brilliance as a military commander and leads to French occupation of northern Italy.
