Padri War
Years: 1803 - 1837
The Padri War (also called the Minangkabau War) is fought from 1803 until 1837 in West Sumatra, Indonesia between the Padris and the Adats.
"Padris" are Muslim clerics from Sumatra who, inspired by Wahabism and after returning from Hajj, want to impose Sharia in Minangkabau country in West Sumatra, Indonesia.
"Adats" comprise the Minangkabau nobility and traditional chiefs.
The latter ask for the help of the Dutch, who intervene from 1821 and help the nobility defeat the Padri faction.
The Padri want to purify the traditions and beliefs.
