Ostend, Siege of

Years: 1601 - 1604

The Siege of Ostend is a three-year siege during the Eighty Years' War and one of the longest sieges in history.

It is remembered as the bloodiest battle of the war, and culminates in a Spanish victory.

It is said "the Spanish assailed the unassailable; the Dutch defended the indefensible."

"The Master said, 'A true teacher is one who, keeping the past alive, is also able to understand the present.'"
