Oranges, War of the

Years: 1801 - 1801

The War of the Oranges (Portuguese: Guerra das Laranjas; French: Guerre des Oranges; Spanish: Guerra de las Naranjas), a brief conflict in 1801 in which France and Spain fight against Portugal, is considered a precedent of the Peninsular War.

It is of particular importance as it is in the outcome of the war that Spain attains the control of the town of Olivenza (Olivença in Portuguese).

“History isn't about dates and places and wars. It's about the people who fill the spaces between them.”

― Jodi Picoult, The Storyteller (2013)
