Nineveh, Battle of
Years: 627 - 627
The Battle of Nineveh is the climactic battle of the last of the Roman-Persian Wars between the Byzantine Empire and the Sassanid Empire, in 627.
The Byzantine victory breaks the power of the Sassanid dynasty and for a period of time restores the empire to its ancient boundaries in the Middle East.
This resurgence of power and prestige is not to last, however, as within a matter of decades an Islamic Caliphate will emerge from the Arabian desert and once again bring the empire to the brink of destruction.
