Mountain Men

Years: 1810 - 1844

Mountain men, the trappers and explorers who roam the North American Rocky Mountains from about 1810 to the early 1840s, are of many ethnic, social and religious backgrounds, although they are primarily of Canadian or American origin.

Trapping beaver and selling the skins, mountain men are primarily motivated by profit, although some are more interested in exploring the West.

“What experience and history teach is that nations and governments have never learned anything from history."

―Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, Lectures (1803)
