Mongol Invasions of Korea

Years: 1231 - 1259

The Mongol invasions of Korea (1231 - 1273) consist of a series of campaigns by the Mongol Empire against Korea, known as Goryeo, from 1231 to 1259.

There are six major campaigns at tremendous cost to civilian lives throughout the Korean peninsula, ultimately resulting in Korea becoming a tributary state of the Mongol Yuan Dynasty for approximately eighty years.

“And in the absence of facts, myth rushes in, the kudzu of history.”

― Stacy Schiff, Cleopatra: A Life (2010)
