Kopidnadon, Battle of

Years: 788 - 788

The Battle of Kopidnadon or Kopidnados takes place in September 788 between the armies of the Abbasid Caliphate and the Byzantine Empire.

The Abbasid army launches an invasion of Byzantine Asia Minor, and is confronted by a Byzantine force at Kopidnadon.

The resulting battle is an Abbasid victory.

Among the Byzantine losses is a certain Diogenes, who is identified by some scholars with the probable original source for the literary hero Digenes Akritas.

“What experience and history teach is that nations and governments have never learned anything from history."

―Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, Lectures (1803)
