Faesulae, Battle of

Years: 405 - 405

The Battle of Faesulae is fought in 405 CE as part of the Gothic invasion of the Western Roman Empire.

After General Flavius Stilicho repels the Visigoths at Pollentia and Verona, he encounters a new incursion of Vandals and Goths led by Radagaisus whose forces attack Florence.

Stilicho ultimately defeats the invaders at Faesulae (modern Fiesole) with support from Uldin the Hun and Sarus the Goth.

Radagaisus is executed after the battle and survivors of his armies flee to Alaric.

"In fact, if we revert to history, we shall find that the women who have distinguished themselves have neither been the most beautiful nor the most gentle of their sex."

― Mary Wollstonecraft, A Vindication... (1792)
