Dzungar-Qing War

Years: 1687 - 1758

The Dzungar-Qing War (1687–1758) is a decades-long series of conflicts that pis the Dzungar Khanate against the Qing dynasty of China and their Mongolian vassals.

Fighting taes place over a wide swath of Inner Asia, from present-day central and eastern Mongolia to Tibet, Qinghai, and Xinjiang regions of present-day China.

Qing victories ultimately lead to the incorporation of Outer Mongolia, Tibet and Xinjiang into the Qing Empire that is to last until the fall of the dynasty in 1911-1912.

“Let us study things that are no more. It is necessary to know them, if only to avoid them. The counterfeits of the past assume false names, and gladly call themselves the future. Let us inform ourselves of the trap. Let us be on our guard. The past has a visage, superstition, and a mask, hypocrisy. Let us denounce the visage and let us tear off the mask."

― Victor Hugo, Les Misérables (1862)
