Dutch-Swedish War 1658-1660

Years: 1658 - 1660

The Dutch-Swedish War of 1658–1660 is a Dutch intervention in the Northern Wars, in which Sweden tries to extend its control over the Baltic Sea.

To the Dutch, the Baltic trade is vital, both in quantity and quality.

They have always been able to convince Denmark by threat of force to keep the Sound tolls at a low level but they fear a strong Swedish empire might not be so compliant.

“What experience and history teach is that nations and governments have never learned anything from history."

―Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, Lectures (1803)
