Donghak Peasant Revolution
Years: 1894 - 1895
The Donghak Peasant Revolution, an anti-government, anti-yangban and anti-foreign uprising in 1894 in Korea which is the catalyst for the First Sino-Japanese War, is a religious and political movement directed at the Joseon dynasty with the intention of firstly establishing social reform and secondly to expel foreigners.
Many Koreans despise Japanese and foreign enchroachments and influences over their land and the corrupt oppressive rule of the Joseon Dynasty.
It is also one of the series of events that will bring the Joseon dynasty to an end and to make possible the establishment of Japanese rule over Korea (1910 - 1945).
