The Battle of Cotyaeum of 492 is fought in Phrygia Epictetus between the rebel Isaurian army led by Longinus of Cardala (other commanders include Conon Phuscianus, an ex- bishop, and Longinus of Selinus) and the Eastern Roman army of Emperor Anastasius led by John the Scythian and John the Hunchback (subordinate commanders include the future Justin I).The rebel forces are decisively defeated and are forced to retreat to their fortresses in Isauria and In Isauria where Byzantine imperial forces will slowly grind them down over the next seven years.
