Cologne Diocesan Feud

Years: 1473 - 1480

The Cologne Diocesan Feud, also called the Neuss War (Neusser Krieg) or Burgundian War (Burgundischer Krieg), is a conflict between the Archbishop of Cologne, Ruprecht of the Palatinate and the Landstände of his archbishopric, that begins in 1473.

As a result of the involvement of Charles the Bold of Burgundy and, eventually, the Holy Roman Empire, the matter at times assumes an international dimension.

It finally ends when Ruprecht dies in 1480.

“One cannot and must not try to erase the past merely because it does not fit the present.”
