Years: 1285 - 1285

The Battle of the Col de Panissars is fought on September 30 and October 1, 1285 between the forces of Philip III of France and Peter III of Aragón.

It is a severe defeat for the French, who are already retiring over the Pyrenees when the Aragonese fall on them.It is the last battle of the Aragonese Crusade, a papally sanctioned war on behalf of Charles of Valois to secure the Aragonese throne from the excommunicate king Peter, who had conquered Sicily against papal interests.

The battle follows on the heels of the naval victory at Les Formigues on September 4.

"In times like these, it helps to recall that there have always been times like these.”
