Club War, or Cudgel War
Years: 1596 - 1597
The name of the uprising known as the Club War (also Cudgel War), a 1596 peasant uprising in the kingdom of Sweden against exploitation by nobility and military in what is today Finland, derives from the fact that the peasants cannot afford Zweihander swords, mounts and lances or muskets that can reliably penetrate the plate armor of the knights, thus they arm themselves with maces, iron cudgels and other blunt weapons.
