Years: 1876 - 1887
The most important of the several rebellions that rock imperial China in the laer 19th century is the communistic uprising and subsquent civil war known as the Tai-Ping Rebellion, which begins in 1850 and lasts until 1865.
Nearly parallel to this event is the Nien Rebellion that begins in 1853 and is not suppressed by the authorities until 1868.
The Muslim Rebellions in Yunnan and in Shensi and Kansu compound the problems of the Manchu government, which finally crushes the last of the Muslim rebellions in 1881.
