Catalan Revolt of 1640-59

Years: 1640 - 1659

The Catalan Revolt (known in Catalan as the Guerra dels Segadors or Reapers' War) affects a large part of Catalonia between the years of 1640 and 1659.

It is to have an enduring effect in the Treaty of the Pyrenees, which cedes the county of Roussillon and the northern half of the county of Cerdanya to France, thereby splitting the Catalan population.

The Spanish counterinsurgency efforts exhaust and ultimately contribute to Spain's decline as a world power, much in the same way as the USSR's counterinsurgency efforts in Afghanistan 350 years later will contribute to the USSR's decline.
