Cameroon Rebellion

Years: 1956 - 1959

The Union of the Peoples of Cameroon (UPC) engages in a guerrilla struggle against French colonialism in the French Cameroons.

In 1955 the UPC is for all practical purposes banned, and in 1960 Cameroon achieves independence under the conservative government of President Ahmadou Ahidjo.

“Hegel remarks somewhere that all great, world-historical facts and personages occur, as it were, twice. He has forgotten to add: the first time as tragedy, the second as farce”

― Karl Marx, The Eighteenth Brumaire...(1852)
