Byzantine-Muslim War of 778-83

Years: 778 - 783

After the death of Constantine V in 775, Arab raids on the Byzantine Empire had resumed.

After a heavy defeat at Germanicopolis in 779/780, the Abbasids launch a series of major invasions under Harun al-Rashid, which lead to the conclusion of a truce in 783.

"Who controls the past controls the future: who controls the present controls the past...Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book has been rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street and building has been renamed, every date has been altered."

― George Orwell, 1984 (1948)
