Black September in Jordan
Years: 1970 - 1971
The term Black September refers to the Jordanian Civil War that begins in September 1970 and ends in July of 1971.
The conflict is fought between the two major components of the Jordanian population, the Palestinians represented by the Palestine Liberation Organization under the leadership of Yasser Arafat and the Trans-Jordanians represented by the Jordanian Armed Forces under the leadership of King Hussein.
At its core, the civil war seeks to determine if Jordan would be ruled by the Palestine Liberation Organization or the Hashemite Monarchy.
The war results in the deaths of thousands of people, the vast majority Palestinian.
Armed conflict lasts until July 1971 with the expulsion of the Palestine Liberation Organization and thousands of Palestinian fighters to Lebanon.
