The 735–737 Japanese smallpox epidemic ("Epidemic of the Tenpyō era") is a major smallpox epidemic that afflicts much of Japan.

Killing approximately one third of the entire Japanese population, the epidemic has significant social, economic, and religious repercussions throughout the country.
