Yujiulü Shelun
khagan of the Rouran
Years: 391 - 410
Yujiulü Shelun (c.391-410) is khagan of the Rouran from 402 to 410.
He comes to power after his father Heduohan is defeated and killed by the Touba Northern Wei.
Shelun leads retaliatory raids against Northern Wei, but suffers a serious defeat in 399 and is forced to flee westward.
There he subjugates the Hulu tribe and with their assistance he defeats the Gaoche, then declares himself Khagan.
Shelun is the first major leader of the steppes to adopt the title of Khagan or Qiudoufa Khan (which was originally a title used by Xianbei nobles).
In May, 410 he dies and is succeeded by Yujiulü Hulü.
