Simeon of Moscow
Prince of Moscow and Grand Prince of Vladimir
Years: 1316 - 1353
Simeon Ivanovich Gordiy (the Proud) (November 7,.
1316 –April 27, 1353) is Prince of Moscow and Grand Prince of Vladimir.
Simeon continues his father's policies of supporting the Golden Horde and acting as its leading enforcer in Russia.
Simeon's rule is marked by regular military and political standoffs against the Novgorod Republic and Lithuania.
His relationships with neighboring Russian principalities remain peaceful if not passive: Simeon stays aside from conflicts between subordinate princes.
He chooses recourse to war only when war is unavoidable.
A relatively quiet period for Moscow is ended by the Black Death, which claims the lives of Simeon and his sons in 1353.
