Pope Damasus II (died 9 August 1048), born Poppo, is the head of the Catholic Church from July 17, 1048 to his death in 1048.
He is the second of the German pontiffs nominated by Emperor Henry III.
A native of Bavaria, he is the third German to become Pope and has one of the shortest papal reigns.
His original name is Poppo, and he is bishop of Brixen when the Emperor raises him to the papacy.
