Phraortes ( c. 665 - 633 BCE), son of Diyako (Deioces), is the second king of the Median Empire.

Like his father Deioces, Phraortes starts wars against Assyria, but is defeated and killed by Ashurbanipal, the king of the Neo-Assyrian Empire.
