Pei Ji

chancellor of the Chinese dynasty Tang Dynasty

Pei Ji (570-629, courtesy name Xuanzhen, formally (posthumously created) the Duke of Hedong, is an important official and one-time chancellor of Tang Dynasty.

He initially serves as an official of Sui Dynasty and is one of the driving forces in persuading the general Li Yuan to rebel against Emperor Yang of Sui.

He eventually assists Li Yuan in founding Tang Dynasty as its Emperor Gaozu and is greatly honored in Emperor Gaozu's reign.

After Emperor Gaozu's son Emperor Taizong becomes emperor in 626, Pei begins to be accused of corruption and associations with witchcraft and is exiled.

Emperor Taizong soon remembers Pei's contributions to Tang's founding and tries to recall him, but Pei dies before he can do so.
