Nikephoros Phokas the Elder (c. 830 – c. 896/900) wis one of the most prominent Byzantine generals of the late 9th century, and the first important member of the Phokas family.
He has a distinguished military career in southern Italy, and is successful against the Arabs and the Bulgarians as well.
