Murong Chao

emperor of the Chinese/Xianbei state Southern Yan
Years: 385 - 410

Murong Chao (385–410), courtesy name Zuming, is the last emperor of the Chinese/Xianbei state Southern Yan.

He is the nephew of the founding emperor Murong De (Emperor Xianwu) who is trapped under the rule of Later Qin, but is welcomed to Southern Yan after his uncle finds out about his existence.

Because Murong De has no surviving sons, Murong Chao inherits his throne after his death in 405.

Initially considered able, Murong Chao turns out to be capricious and thoroughly unwilling to accept criticism once he becomes emperor, and after he provoks Jin, the Jin general Liu Yu captures and killshim in 410, ending Southern Yan.
