Mary Tudor

Queen of France
Years: 1496 - 1533

Mary Tudor (March 18, 1496 – June 25, 1533), the third daughter of Henry VII of England and Elizabeth of York, is Queen of France.

Mary becomes the third wife of Louis XII of France, more than thirty years her senior.

Following his death, she marries Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk.

The marriage, which is performed secretly in France, takes place without her brother's consent.

This necessitates the intervention of Thomas Wolsey and the couple are eventually pardoned by Henry VIII, although they are forced to pay a large fine.

Mary's second marriage produces four children; and through her eldest daughter Frances, Mary is the maternal grandmother of Lady Jane Grey, who is the de facto monarch of England for a little over a week in July 1553.
