Liu Yao
emperor of the Chinese/Xiongnu state Han Zhao
Years: 278 - 329
Liu Yao (died 329), courtesy name Yongming, is the final emperor of the Chinese/Xiongnu state Han Zhao.
He becomes emperor in 318 after most other members of the imperial Liu clan are massacred by Jin Zhun in a coup.
However, the empire is soon divided in half, as the general Shi Le declares independence and establishes Later Zhao.
In a decisive battle in early 329, Shi captures and executes him, and while his sons Liu Xi the Crown Prince and Liu Yin the Prince of Nanyang continue to hold out for nearly a year, the Han Zhao state falls later this year.
