Liu Yan (died 194) is a warlord during the late Han Dynasty period of Chinese history.

He is also a member of the extended family of the Han Dynasty emperors.

For most of his career he serves as Governor of Yi Province (present-day Sichuan), which he develops into an independent power base.

His domain is passed on to his son Liu Zhang, and eventually to Liu Bei, who founds Shu Han of the Three Kingdoms.
