Ling Tong

Chinese general
Years: 189 - 237

Ling Tong (189 – 237 or 217) is a general of the state of Eastern Wu during the late Han Dynasty and Three Kingdoms era of Chinese history.

He starts his service to the Sun family in his childhood, and throughout his entire life, he contributes to the foundation and solidification of Eastern Wu.

He participated in many campaigns, including those against Huang Zu, Liu Bei, and the Shanyue.

But his most noted performance lie with those against the rival state of Cao Wei, in which he displays great skills under extremely adverse situation.

Besides being a military general, Ling Tong is highly praised by the scholars for his gracious demeanor, bonhomie and generosity.

Even though he has achieved fame and glory when he visits his hometown later in his life, he still treats commoners with utmost respect and humanity (which is a rare case in the chaotic world in which he lives).

He acts as a strategist after he returns from the frontline, and drastically changes the way Eastern Wu deals with the Shanyue tribes and successfully recruits over 10,000 strong army from the Shanyue through impressing them with a show of might and potential rewards (Ling Tong's strategy will be adopted and modified by Zhuge Ke later).

He is also well known for his integrity and loyalty; he and Lü Meng are Sun Quan’s most valued generals.
