Kurszán
co-ruler of the Magyars
Years: 860 - 904
Kurszán (died 904), the Magyar (Hungarian) sacral prince, is a partner ruler together with Árpád until his death.
He has a crucial role in the Hungarian Conquest (Honfoglalás).
In 892/893, together with Arnulf of Carinthia, he attacks Great Moravia to secure the eastern borders of the Frankish Empire.
Arnulf gives him all the captured lands in Moravia.
Kurszán also occupies the southern part of Hungary that had belonged to the Bulgarian Kingdom.
He enters into an alliance with Byzantine Emperor Leo VI the Wise fter realizing the country's vulnerability from the south.
Together they surprisingly defeat the army of Simeon I of Bulgaria.
