Josef Breuer (January 15, 1842 – June 20, 1925) is a distinguished physician who makes key discoveries in neurophysiology, and whose work in the 1880s with his patient Bertha Pappenheim, known as Anna O., develops the talking cure (cathartic method) and laiysthe foundation to psychoanalysis as developed by his protégé Sigmund Freud.
