John Erskine
2nd earl of Mar
Years: 1558 - 1634
John Erskine, 2nd Earl of Mar (ca.
1558 – 14 December 1634) is a Scottish politician, the only son of John Erskine, 1st Earl of Mar.
Together with King James VI of Scotland he is educated by George Buchanan.
After attaining his majority he is nominally the guardian of the young king, who is about seven years his junior, and who lives with him at Stirling; but he is in reality something of a puppet in the hands of the regent, James Douglas, 4th Earl of Morton; and he loses power and position when Morton is imprisoned.
