Johan Christopher Toll
Swedish statesman and soldier
Years: 1743 - 1817
Count Johan Christopher Toll (February 1, 1743 – May 21, 1817), Swedish statesman and soldier, was born at Mölleröd in Scania (now part of Hässleholm Municipality, Skåne County).
Toll comes from an ancient family, of Dutch origin, which can be traced back to the thirteenth century, but migrated to the Baltic provinces in the sixteenth century.
Toll's father was one of Charles XII's warriors, his mother a descendant of the aristocratic Gyllenstjernas.
In his youth Johan Christopher serves in the Seven Years' War; then, exchanging the military for the civil service, becomes head ranger or överjägmästare of Kristianstad County.
