Bindusara
Maurya emperor
Years: 320BCE - 272BCE
Bindusara is the second Mauryan emperor (c. 320 BCE – 272 BCE, ruled.
298 BCE – c. 272 BCE) after Chandragupta Maurya.
During his reign, the empire expands southwards.
He has two well-known sons, Susima and Ashoka, who are the viceroys of Taxila and Ujjain.
The Greeks call him Amitrochates or Allitrochades - the Greek transliteration for the Sanskrit word 'Amitraghata' (Slayer of enemies).
He is also called 'Ajatashatru' (Man with no enemies) in Sanskrit (not to be confused with Ajatashatru who ruled Magadha empire 491 BCE – 461 BCE and was son of King Bimbisara).
He also goes by the title Deva-nampriya.
