August von Mackensen

German field marsha
Years: 1849 - 1945

Anton Ludwig Friedrich August von Mackensen (December 6, 1849 – November 8, 1945), born August Mackensen, is a German field marshal.

He commands successfully during the First World War and becomes one of the German Empire's most prominent and competent military leaders.

After the armistice, Mackensen is interned for a year.

He retires from the army in 1920 and is made a Prussia state councilor in 1933 by Hermann Göring.

During the Nazi era, Mackensen remains a committed monarchist and sometimes appears at official functions in his First World War uniform.

He is suspected of disloyalty to the Third Reich, but nothing is proven against him.
