Audoin
king of the Lombards
Years: 510 - 565
Alduin, Auduin, or Audoin is king of the Lombards from 546 to 560.
The Lombards become, under him, fœderati of the Byzantines (541), signing a treaty with Justinian I which gives them power in Pannonia and the north.
Beginning in 551, he is obliged to send troops to serve Narses in Italy against the Ostrogoths.
The next year (552), he sends over 5,000 men to defeat the Goths on the sides of Vesuvius.
He dies in 563 or 565 and is succeeded by his son, Alboin, who brings the Lombards into Italia.
He marries Rodelinda, the daughter of Amalaberga and Hermanfrid, king of the Thuringii.
