Amenhotep III
Pharaoh of Egypt, 18th Dynasty
Years: 1410BCE - 1349BCE
Amenhotep III (sometimes read as Amenophis III; Egyptian Amāna-Ḥātpa; meaning Amun is Satisfied) also known as Amenhotep the Magnificent is the ninth pharaoh of the Eighteenth dynasty.
According to different authors, he rules Egypt from June 1386 to 1349 BCE or June 1388 BCE to December 1351 BCE/1350 BCE after his father Thutmose IV died.
Amenhotep III was the son of Thutmose by Mutemwia, a minor wife of Amenhotep's father.
His reign is a period of unprecedented prosperity and artistic splendor, when Egypt reaches the peak of her artistic and international power.
When he dies (probably in the 39th year of his reign), his son initially rules as Amenhotep IV, but later changes his own royal name to Akhenaten.
