Stone sculptures at Longmen, a complex of Buddhist cave temples ten miles (sixteen kilometers) south of Luoyang, in China’s Henan province, begin in 494.
The fine Buddhist sculptures in the Longmen complex’s Binyang cave, completed in 523, represent highly spiritualized, ethereal-looking figures whose forms are draped in elegantly defined cascading robes.
