The state of Mewar is founded around 530; the first capital is at Chittorgarh.

Later the kingdom is also, and ultimately predominantly, called Udaipur after the name of its new capital, founded in 1553.

When Udaipur State joins the Indian Union in 1949 it had been ruled by the Chattari Rajputs of Mori Guhilot Parihar and Sisodia dynasties for over fourteen hundred years.
