Menominee (Amerind tribe)

Years: 1500 - 2057

The Menominee (also spelled Menomini; known as Mamaceqtaw, "the people" in their own language) are a nation of Native Americans living in Wisconsin.

The Menominee, along with the Ho-Chunk, are the only tribes that are indigenous to what is now Wisconsin.

The name "Menominee" comes from the Ojibwe name manoominii, meaning "wild rice people", as wild rice is one of their most important traditional staples.
