Man, (British) crown possession of the Isle of
Years: 1504 - 2057
English rule is delegated to a series of lords and magnates.
The Tynwald passes laws concerning the government of the island in all respects and had control over its finances, but is subject to the approval of the Lord of Mann.
With the accession of the Stanleys to the throne there begins a more settled epoch in Manx history.
Though the island's new rulers rarely visit its shores, they place it under governors, who, in the main, seem to have treated it with the justice of the time.
In 1866, the Isle of Man obtains a nominal measure of Home Rule.
